Southam College’s Celebration of Advent
A Fantastic Experience for the Southam College Junior Cross Country Team at the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final!
Saturday morning the Junior Girls Cross Country Team made the long journey down to Sevenoaks for the National Final of the Cross Country Cup. The Southam team was one of 28 teams who had qualified to the final of the event in the whole of England.
The course was a very difficult course with tight turns and uneven ground throughout but a perfect venue to host the finals on a crisp and cool morning.
The girls ran hard and seemed to take in the lovely venue and views on their route round. Elspeth was the first of the Southam Team home in 54th place with a strong finish overtaking people on the finishing straight.
Madeleine was the second of the Southam runners back in 99th place after battling a stitch in the last half of the race. Sienna had started extremely strong, however similar to Madeleine suffered with a stitch during the second half of the race finishing in 121st. Poppy H with a sprint finish saw her finish one pace behind Sienna in 122nd. In very quick succession Mae and Poppy L came speeding down the finishing straight in 129th and 132nd to complete the team score.
It was a lovely experience and a fantastic day. Thank you again to the families who made the journey down to support the team in their first National Final.
Well done,
Mrs Turton and Miss Maclachlan
