Logan’s Run

Southam 25 Bilton 0

Centre Logan Morrison produced two blistering runs for two spectacular tries as Southam recorded a varsity match victory against Bilton. Logan shared the Man of the Match award with excellent tackling prop forward Ruben De Beer.

Ben Davies had earlier opened the scoring with a strong break after having two earlier tries ruled out for not quite grounding the ball. Oli Kitson was unlucky not to score after several driving runs. His power and pace make him a real prospect for the future. James Pelter was highly impressive at Full Back, producing some fine counter attacks. James had one try disallowed for a knock on but showed superb footwork, just on the stroke of half time, to dance past his opposing Full Back and give Southam a 10-0 lead.

The game was a little scrappy at times, with too many players attacking as individuals. Next week’s training will work on passing to spread the play to the poor wingers who were starved of possession. Despite this, Cameron Black had a fine debut. Classy captain Brendan Simms produced another fine performance with strong tackling and penetrating runs that maintained his try a game record. With Logan in full flow, Southam scored three second half tries and eased to a comfortable victory.

A particular thank you to parents Mark Werren and Rob Pelter for their assistance with the coaching.

GODIVA HOUSE CAPTAINS

I am pleased to announce the new Godiva Sports Captains for 2017/2018. For year 7 we have Madeleine J and Reni Bwho have already shown fantastic sporting ability in the house cross country and their organisation skills in arranging a great team.

Harry D has continued with his role as sports captain role this year but is being helped by Lucy P to help motivate the year 8 students this year to victory.

The successful year 9 sports captains from last year Poppy L and Charlie Pare continuing their fantastic jobs with the support of Harley W who is the new addition to the year 9 team.

I have full confidence that all 7 of these will do a fantastic job and will help lead Godiva to victory once more!

MEEK BUT NOT MILD!

Southam 50 Aylesford 0
Four tries from tenacious Scrum Half Jayden Meek set the tone for a very successful evening at the Shipston Rugby Tournament. A brace of tries for Man of the Match Toby Cox and two for Ben Davies, were accompanied by tries for Ashley Barnett and skipper Brendan Simms to complete an impressive victory.

Southam 25 Chipping Camden 0
Ashley Barnett was Man of the Match for a sensational tackle and fine all round performance. The pace of James Pelter, Charlie Cooke and Brendan Simms brought three tries, with the power of Hooker Thomas Warren and Prop Toby Cox completing the scoring. Jacob Goatley deserves a special mention for a great game at Scrum Half, as does speedy winger Paul Hickey who looks a real prospect.

Logan Morrison moved to the centres and was devastating in attack and defence in his Man of the Match performance. Logan’s powerful running made him one of seven try scorers. Other tries came from a dazzling solo run from Reni Bulyka, a first try for man mountain Cameron Ounsworth, one try a game Brendan Simms, a rampaging run from Oli Kitson with defenders hanging off him, and more tries from the talented Ben Davies and Thomas Warren.

Southam 15 Chipping Camden 0
An excellent run from full back James Pelter opened the scoring in a tighter game. More strong rucking and mauling from the forwards created more tries for Logan Morrison and Brendan Simms. Callum Stewart was Man of the Match for some excellent runs and neat passing. He was well supported by Hudson Byatt and James Byrne who both read the game so well.

So a wonderful evening with 125 points scored and no tries conceded. Captain Brendan Simms was Player of the Tournament for scoring in every game and for consistently making huge tackles. We move on to the Varsity Match against Bolton at home on Thursday.

WELL DONE BOYS!
