What a wonderful weekend we have had at Condover Hall, after year and half of absolute awfulness we finally managed to get on Netball Tour again. Over the weekend the Year 11 Team played fantastic netball and took part in the activities that were available at the centre. These included tunnelling, lazer maze, high ropes, wall climbing and abseiling.
The Netball got underway on Saturday morning and finished on Sunday afternoon; over the two days we played against Preston Netball Club, Waverley Netball Club, Alcester Grammar School and Cardinal Langley R.C School. The netball was of a very high standard, the best competition we have ever played, so every match was tough. Despite this the Year 11 Team played brilliantly, they worked hard, fought to the end and never gave up. The shooting team, which consists of Eve, Holly and Ruby were amazing, they worked the ball in and around the circle to ensure they were in the best possible shooting position and even under the immense pressure the shooting was accurate and consistent. On the attacking team, which was led by Abi, Marie and Ellie joined her to drive the ball up court and into the shooters, providing them opportunities to score. Finally on the defence team, Millie, Molly, Hattie, Amelia and Bella did everything they possibly could to put pressure on the opposing teams; forcing them to make errors; making outstanding interceptions to get possession and trying to prevent the opposition from getting the ball to their attacking and shooting teams as much as they could throughout the games.
Every single member of the team demonstrated all the values of Southam College and the ethos that the school strives for. There was definitely Resilience; Kindness to each other, the other teams they played and the younger members who joined us on tour. Confidence got better and better throughout the tournament regardless of the losses we experienced.
All of you should be extremely proud and you can certainly walk away from this weekend with your heads held high.
Thank you to Millie for captaining the team over the weekend and supporting all the team members and encouraging them to keep going, especially in the times where physical and mental toughness was needed.
You are all wonderful role models and I am so proud of every single one of you. Thank you for being such lovely human beings and making my job as your teacher and coach most enjoyable. You are an example of why I became a teacher and do the job I do! You are all absolutely amazing!
Player of the tournament:
Southam 5: Molly, She was awarded the player of the tournament because throughout, she worked hard every single second of the game, she stepped up and made sure that her opponent was not going to get the ball easily. Molly marked tight and made the most amazing interceptions. She also helped the attacking team by getting in to space, driving for the ball; this enabled her to assist in keeping possession and getting the ball to the shooters. Molly (and the others members of the team) has some very hard and not always nice opposition, she did not let this phase her and remained calm and just focused on the job she needed to do.
