Year 9 Rugby

Wednesday afternoon saw the first Year 9 Rugby Fixture of the new academic year with a home fixture against Coundon Court. Southam were hoping to build on their impressive year 8 campaign where they remained unbeaten.
The team started brightly and played some good strong rugby with plenty of rucking and powerful running. They were rewarded with a try from Ben after good set up play from the forwards. James P then ran in a fantastic solo try after taking a high ball in his own half before beating the opposition to put the ball down. This try was converted by Logan. Southam continued to press and Jake G scored a great debut try after good team play from Logan and James. Southam were dominant in defence which allowed Rory to drive down the left wing before offloading to Oscar to touch down in the corner. Southam shuffled their side but this did not impact on the team performance, James B scored in the corner after persistence from Logan and Jake to carry the ball upfield. Jaden and debutant Sean combined brilliantly to set up Rory for a try under the posts before Logan completed the scoring in the first half with a fine individual try. Half Time Score 41-0.
More changes at half time allowed Southam to try players in new positions in readiness for more fixtures. Ashley scored a wonderful try under the posts after some powerful running. Some more good team play allowed James P to score his second try of the afternoon with a strong run down the wing before finishing under the posts. Rory completed the scoring with his second try of the afternoon after some dominant rucking from Will, Tom and Cole.
A fantastic start to the season with a 62-0 win. The year 9 team have another home fixture on Saturday morning against Fairfax which promises to be entertaining.
Well Done Lads.
