On Wednesday evening the year 8 rugby team played their final fixture of the season against North Leamington School.
This was the first fixture since November for the boys and there was some initial rustiness with a few misplaced passes and handling errors but Southam soon found their groove and played some fantastic rugby with powerful rucking and strong running resulting in 3 unanswered scores at the end of the first third. Southam’s try scorers were Max S, Logan and Oli.
The second third started with a whirlwind and Southam scored two quick tries through Logan and Max F-P. Southam were looking to play quick rugby but North Leam hit back and scored 2 very good team tries to make the score 25-10 at the end of the second third. During the second third there was some fantastic defence on our own try line with some brilliant tackling and rucking from Rory, Tom, Will and Jake.
The final third of the game was a very balanced contest with both teams having strong passages of play in opposing 22’s. Southam did score a further 3 tries through James P and Callum who scored 2. North Leamington added another score but the final whistle went with the score 40-15 to Southam.
A great game to finish the season with some great tackling and rucking from all players. I am extremely pleased with the year 8 boys attitude and application this year. The team have done fantastically well to go through the season without losing a game- a brilliant achievement.
Well done gents on a fantastic season. See you all at training in September.
A very pleased Mr Turton.
