A massive congratulations to our hardy runners who represented the school at the Warwickshire School Cross-Country Championships. The weather was a little damp and cold, but our runners battled on, producing some excellent results and many will now go on to represent Warwick at the English Schools Championships in Leeds and Prestwold Hall.
Performance of the day came from Madeleine Jacks (Yr 8), who tore away from the field on the second lap to win comfortably. Madeleine was running against Yr 9 students and still has another year in this year group, making her win all the more impressive! Elspeth Unitt suffered a fall during the race, but recovered well to finish 14th, and Poppy Lister (22nd) and Mae Quinney (31st) completed the Southam Junior Girls team.
Other runners to gain selection for the Warwickshire teams were: Oliver Wetherall – 6th in the Minor Boys (Yr7), Emily and Ana Lovett finished 5th & 6th respectively in the Inter Girls (Yr10/11), & Georgina Hurt was 8th in the Senior Girls (Yr 12/13).
We also had a number of runner finishing just outside the top 8, who will be reserves for the Warwickshire Teams. Our other runners, who all competed fantastically were: Zoe Sayer (13th), Scarlett Sanders (20th) & Elsie Palmer-Boyd (34th) in the Minor Girls, James Eatough (16th) in the Minor Boys, Sam Hobbs (28th) in the Junior Boys, Rositsa Gugutkova (10th) in the Inter Girls, and Sam lambert (13th) in the Inter Boys.
Well done again to everyone and good luck to all our runners in the National Championships in March.
