Year 8 Rugby

The year 8 rugby team played Lawrence Sheriff on a cold Saturday morning. The team warmed up professionally led by skipper Ben.

Southam started quickly and soon scored their first try through Jaden after a smart pick and go from the base of the scrum. The second try came almost immediately from the resulting kick off after Callum made a good tackle before offloading to Brendon to touch down.

The game ebbed and flowed before Ben scored his first try of the season which was an individual effort, picking and going from the scrum from 5 metres out. Logan scored his first conversion of the day. The fourth try of the morning was scored by Rory after strong running. James scored another try after fine running before Lawrence Sheriff scored a good team try in the corner. Southam responded quickly, scoring their final try of the first half after Callum offloaded to James who touched down before Paul converted. A half time score of 38-5 to Southam.

The second half continued in the same fashion, Ash continued his great try scoring form and scored before converting himself. Zsombor scored a terrific solo try running in from the half way line and touching down under the posts. Southam were strong in the rucks and didn’t allow Sheriff any time to play which allowed Cameron to score after a quick break from Brendon. Jaden scored his second try of the game after good forward play before Zsombor scored another try with the final play of the game after continued pressure in the Sheriff 22. Final score 69-5 to Southam.

The year 8 boys conducted themselves fantastically well and played with great enthusiasm and determination. They were rewarded with their biggest win of the season. Well done boys.
