Year 8 Rugby

Southam Year 8 travelled to Coundon Court knowing they would be in for a tough test against a very physical side. Southam started slowly and conceded an early try but they soon hit back through birthday boy Ash who ran in a good try from 20m out after a superb turnover from Logan. Unfortunately for Southam this was where the try scoring stopped for the first half and Coundon ran in another 3 tries to make the half time score 20-5 in Coundon’s favour. The Southam team knew that they could perform much better in the second half.

Southam were fantastic in the second half. Every single player hit tackles hard, powered through rucks and constantly turned the ball over to start new attacks. The boys got their rewards through a try from Tom after fantastic phase play by the forwards. The team carried on their persistent play and didn’t let Coundon cross the half way line. Callum crossed the line with 3 minutes left to leave a nail biting finish. With 30 seconds of play left the forwards won the ball from a scrum, fast ball out from Jayden to the backs and eventually after 4 phases Oli powered over the line to secure a fantastic come back to draw the game 20-20.

A superb second half performance from the team showed exactly what they are capable of. A fantastic fight back, one which I am very proud of. The unbeaten start to the season continues!!

Well done Gents.

A very pleased Mr Turton.
