Year 8 Rugby

Wednesday evening saw the y8 rugby team look to continue their impressive start to the season. The boys took part in a Rugby festival held at Rugby Lions RFC with Bilton, Harris Academy and Rugby Free School also competing.

The first game saw Southam take on Bilton. Logan Morrison caught the ball from kick off and ran the length of the pitch to score a fine try. Southam dominated the game with strong tackling and could have scored more tries but for good try line defence. Logan scored a further 2 tries to complete his hat trick, both tries were through dominant strong runs after good forward play by the commanding Tom Cumberbatch and Tom Werren. Final score 15-0.

The second game of the evening saw a much changed team play Harris. The same team ethos of strong defence and powerful rucking helped Callum Stewart score 2 tries, Cole Crowther, James Byrne, Oscar Wain and Jaden Meek all score tries after fantastic team play. The boys showed strong defence with great tackling from Oli Kitson, Max Shirley and Max Fraser Pope. Final score 30-0.

The final game of the festival was played against Rugby Free School. The team conceded their only try of the evening after a fast break caught them off guard. Southam responded with strong running from James Pelter who scored a great try on the wing. The game was fiercely contested and good defence from the ever strong Rory Spencer, Dan Patten, Ben Davies and Max Fraser Pope ensured no more tries were scored. The team could have won it with the last play of the game but strong defence meant they were held up short! A great effort to fight back and not lose. Final score 5-5.

I am very pleased with how the team are developing and putting into practice what we do at training. Well done gents, another fine display of attacking fluent rugby.
