Saturday Morning Superstars!!
This morning saw the first of the year 8 Saturday morning fixtures away to Kenilworth. A strong side arrived in the hope of building on a good performance against Shipston last week.
Southam started the game in fierce fashion with strong tackles and pressure in the rucks from the first whistle. This was rewarded with a Tom Werren try after a strong scrum. TOM showed good strength to get the ball over the line despite the best efforts of Kenilworth’s defence.
Soon after the first score Brendan Simms received the ball inside his own half before single handedly beating the majority of the Kenilworth team with a jinking run between the defenders before scoring a fabulous individual try.
Brendan scored his second try of the game after after fantastic work from the forwards in turning a scrum over 10 metres out.
Ashleigh Barnett got in on the try scoring action after a fantastic offload from Rory following some dominant forward play who were extremely well marshalled by Oli Kitson and Ben Davies.
The final try of the first half came from Reni Bulyker who touched down under the posts after a clever pick up from the base of the scrum.
Half time score 25-0.
The second half was a completely different game with Kenilworth providing a much more dominant force with strong running and good tactical play from the backs. Kenilworth scored 4 tries in the second half with no reply from Southam. However, a special mention to James Byrne who provided the tackle of the match to prevent a near certain try!
Full time score 25-20 to Southam!
An entertaining game of rugby on a warm sunny Saturday morning. The year 8s showed great grit, determination and resilience to hold strong in the second half to secure the second win of the season. Well done Gents!
