The year 8 rugby team played their first fixture of the new season on Wednesday evening at a very blustery Shipston Rugby Club.
Fresh from the summer off, all 22 boys were desperate to kick the season off in style and that they did!!
From the very first whistle Southam pressured Shipston into mistakes and capitalised with a free flowing move resulting in a score in the corner from Ashley Barnett. The game continued in the same fashion with dominant forward play with further tries from Logan Morrison and two from Max Shirley. Half time score 22-0.
A completely different side played the second half and they continued the dominant display with precise passing and strong running from all players. In the second half Callum Stewart, Oli Kitson, James Byrne and Thomas Werren all crossed the try line to complete a 46-0 win for Southam.
I am extremely pleased and proud of the boys who showed real sportsmanship by offering to play for Shipston to ensure the game could be played. A special mention to Ben Davies for his organising skills and making sure that the team were well warmed up before the game.
A fantastic start to the season boys- Well Done.
A very pleased Mr Turton.
Well done boys a great effort – more challenging moments to come but a great start.
