Southam’s Junior Girl’s Cross Country Team qualify for the final of the English Schools Cross Country Cup.
The junior girls cross country team competed at the regional round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup Saturday morning in Shropshire.
The regional round consists of the top 3 qualifying schools from the first round. The Southam team consisting of: Elspeth Unitt, Madeline Jacks, Poppy Lister, Poppy Hilton and Mae Quinney took on the up hill course at Chetwynd Deer Park in Shropshire after winning the event at Princethorpe earlier this year.
The course was extremely hilly which played to some of the more experienced runners advantage. Elspeth had an extremely gutsy run right to the finish line completely the course in 5th place, the best of the team. Madeleine who is in her first year in the team finished 2 places behind Elspeth in 7th place.
Completing the teams score were Poppy Lister, Poppy Hilton and Mae Quinney finishing in 25th, 36th and 42nd places respectively. The team finished in a fantastic 3rd place – 1 point ahead of 4th position securing their place in the National final in two weeks time.
Well done Girls you should be extremely proud – and a huge thank you to the parents who gave up their Saturday to come along and support.
